Selling Our House

November 26, 2013 Our house has been on the market for almost 1 month. We have had dozens of showings, and 2 offers. The first offer fell through and we are waiting to hear back on the counter offer from this weekend. I am sick of cleaning my house. We keep a pretty clean and organized house but the clean and organized needed for showing our house is exhausting. We are really hoping this offer is accepted so we can move from cleaning to packing. After looking at dozens of fifth wheels we finally have a deposit on a 2013 Raptor 395LEV. It’s last years model but is brand new. We are waiting for it to be delivered to a local dealer so we can see it in person and make sure it is what we want. We ended up compromising, we could not find a rig, in our price range, that had both a king bed and an extra ½ bath, so the ½ bath won.  Guess we figured snuggling close was a small price to pay for not having to share a toilet with 2 boys....

Lessons Learned

November 21, 2013 Last weekend the kids and I spent a few days with my sister and her family in the Big Blue Bus near Santa Cruz. Amy is currently touring the Pacific Coast with her husband, 3 teenage boys and darling, little princess in a converted Blue Bird Bus.  We had a wonderful time and the boys loved running wild with their cousins through the campground and sleeping in a tent. Trina and I slept in the bus in bunks built by my brother-in-law for his boys. I planned this trip with multiple goals in mind. First and foremost was to spend time with my sister, second was to experience life at a Thousand Trails and my third goal was to learn a bit about our new life. Here are the lessons I learned about life in an RV: A toilet in an RV is VERY important and 2 even better. Wearing shower shoes and showering in a public shower is even worse than it sounds. A master bedroom door and separate “kids area” is a must for a happy marriage. We will need storage, storage and more storage I am VERY excited to start making similar memories with my own...

My Baby

November 13,  2013 We have started to tell people about our plans and one of the questions I get most is, “What do your kids think?” The kids are excited, well, at least 2 of them are.  When we started talking about doing this, I was sure Tyler would be against it. He is our social butterfly and always has been. Every time we have moved in the last 13 years, and there have been many, Tyler has been upset. He complains about leaving his friends and recites to us a list of the numerous houses we have lived in, just in case we forgot that we move  A LOT. But this time when we told the kids, I was pleasantly surprised by Tyler’s reaction. He is excited and was the first to come up with a “route” on Mappad. Carter, on the other hand, is nervous and not too sure about any of this. He was 7 years old when we moved to Sacramento and this is “home” to him. His best friends and swim team are here. His memories of rock climbing, swim meets, 9-1-1 calls (that’s a future post) and all those unique memories that little boys make, happened here in Sacramento. He doesn’t want to miss his 11th birthday with his friends, and he doesn’t want to sell Milo (his bearded dragon.) He says he’s...

We have an offer

November 12, 2013 The house has been on the market for almost 2 weeks. We have had 4 showings and last night we received an offer. Despite knowing this is all part of the plan, I am nauseous. This makes it all too real. After discussing the pros and cons of how to counter the offer, we sat down to make a list of what we must accomplish in the next 4-6 weeks, assuming they sign the offer. The list is long. Sell furniture, mini van, truck, and motorcycle; dental checkups, annual physicals and eye exams; renew and order passports, have a garage sale, buy an RV and truck; sell 2 turtles, a bearded dragon and leopard gecko, get Frodo into the vet for shots; rent a storage shed, pack and sort a TON of clothing, books, kitchen stuff and the garage; withdraw from charter school, arrange for new address and residency, buy a new work computer, plus million other little things I am forgetting, and somewhere in there celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years while still keeping up on my business. I am not the best at time management; obviously… as I have 101 things to do in the next 4-6 weeks and here I sit, typing my thoughts on my...
